AUGUST 07
Okehampton (friendly);
Taunton Revolution began the pre-season with their usual couple of friendly
matches to get back in the swing of things. Okehampton, who are always welcome
hosts were happy to have a pre-season warm up game to give both teams a chance
to have a change from training. As the game started, new coach Shane Johnston
made it clear that the game was all about giving everyone a chance, particularly
the newer players, to gain experience of organised play. As the game started,
the Taunton starting five held a comfortable margin, which continued into the
second quarter. In the Third and fourth sessions the Okehampton team did mange
to put some really good plays together, but in the end the experience of the
Taunton team paid off, and Taunton came away winning 64-56. The scoring and
contributing was well balanced, and minutes for the normal first five were
limited, but everyone had an enjoyable run and the new players had their first
taste of organised play. It also served to give the younger Okehampton team some
great experience as well. Scorers and stats were; Rich Nelsey 15 (16 reb's),
John Grounds 14 (9 reb's), Brett Cooper 12, Matt Acott 11 (4 assists), Marc
Eggleton 9 (5 assists, 6 reb's), Stephen Evans 2, Ben Thompson 1.

SEPTEMBER 07
Minehead (friendly);
Taunton once again made an away journey to local new team Minehead for some
pre-season experience. The Minehead team included some great talent, many
players previously part of the Revolution in the earlier years, so Taunton knew
that they were very capable. Once again coach Johnston chose to use the game as
a learning curve for the less experienced guys, and was slightly less concerned
with the outcome. From the outset it became apparent that the Minehead squad
were deep in talent. Mark Rees, James Coates and Robin Boult who had all played
with Revolution, were still as strong as ever, and with a good young supporting
cast behind them, Taunton had their work cut out. Taunton held the game close
early on, but with some fairly sloppy play the game slipped away from them and
midway through the third quarter the deficit was almost 30 points. the new
Revolution players found themselves straight in at the deep end, facing some of
the strongest players that they were likely to see during the course of the
season to come. Everyone contributed, and although the final score was one
sided, again the Revolution players and the Minehead Vikings squad had the
benefit of some great pre-season experience. The final score was 53-92 in favour
of the Vikings. Scoring and stats were; Marc Eggleton 12 (7 reb's), John Grounds
12 (16 reb's), Matt Acott 10, Rich Nelsey 7 (16 reb's), Ben Waterman 4, Paul
Glaeser 4, Brett Cooper 4.

OCTOBER 07
Exeter Nomads;
Taunton Revolution would start the season off to a flyer with a big win
over a young and talented Exeter Nomads team in their first home game of the
season. Led by new coach Shane Johnston, Taunton were off to a great start with
their offence clicking on all cylinders. Six Revolution players were on the
score sheet by the end of the first quarter where Taunton would see themselves
ahead a whopping 37-14 led by Captain Marc Eggleton and versatile guard Brett
Cooper scoring 9 points each. Johnston made some changes in the second which
would see the Taunton scoring slow slightly, and nomads began to claw their way
back. At the end of the half it was 46-32 in Taunton's favour. Big men John
Grounds and Rich Nelsey led the Revolution charge in the third with Stephen
Evans coming off the bench to score 4 points in the final minute of the quarter.
But it was in the fourth where Taunton really stepped up to put the game out of
reach of the Nomads. Eggleton again led the charge with 9 more points in the
final session, but it was great team play on the offensive end and on defence
which led to the easy scores. The teams' success was down to the work that had
been put in over the off season. although there is still work to be done and
some games will prove more challenging it was a great start to the year. Scoring
and stats were; Marc Eggleton 20 (10 assists, 4 reb's), John Grounds 18 (14
reb's, 5 assists), Brett Cooper 17, Rich Nelsey 15 (14 reb's), Matt Acott 9 (5
reb's), Ben Thompson 6, Stephen Evans 4, Oral Caglar 2, Paul Glaeser 2.

NOVEMBER 07
Exeter Nomads;
Taunton Revolution played their first away fixture of the season at Exeter
against the Nomads on Sunday 4th November. The Revolution had already played
this team in their first game, and although it was a fairly comfortable win they
knew that this team would be tougher at home. The game was defensive early on,
but the Revolution managed to carry an early lead out of the first quarter. Matt
Acott started hitting shots early, and the big guys John Grounds and Rich Nelsey
rebounded well inside. By the first half the Revolution were still ahead by a
handful of points. In the third quarter the scoring from the Taunton team slowed
slightly, and Nomads came back briefly to take the lead for the first time, but
the Revolution players kept their heads and withstood the run to retake the lead
by the end of the third. In the fourth the Taunton team showed some great team
play, with excellent ball movement resulting in some really easy scoring
opportunities. Matt Acott continued his hot shooting and his team mates
connecting with him early and often, Matt was on his way to a game high 24
points. By the end of the game, despite a late push by the Nomads Taunton were
never in any real danger and the game finished up as a win for Revolution 81-72.
Scoring and stats on the night would be as follows; Matt Acott 24 (5 reb's),
Rich Nelsey 15 (12 reb's), John Grounds 12 (11 reb's), Brett Cooper 11, Marc
Eggleton 8 (4 assists, 4 reb's), Paul Glaeser 7 (4 reb's), Ben Thompson 3,
Gabriel Carrillo 1.

Exeter University 1;
Taunton Revolution travelled to Exeter University on Monday 19th Nov to play the
young talented University squad. With key players John Grounds unavailable for
the game and Brett Cooper still recovering from an injury suffered in the last
outing, they knew this would be tough. The game was high scoring from the start,
particularly for the University side where they hit their first 6 shots,
including three from long range. Taunton fell behind early but managed to stay
in the game with some much needed points provided by Captain Marc Eggleton. Marc
connected from 3pt range on his first three shots and finished the first quarter
with 13 points, and big man Rich Nelsey had pulled down 7 rebounds for Taunton
but they were still slightly behind. In the second session the scoring slowed a
little, but Exeter continued their scoring output. The Revolution defence looked
to be struggling at times with the young and quick University players, and at
half time the Revolution found themselves in unfamiliar territory down by 20
points. In the second half, Taunton closed the gap to 12 points with some good
shooting and ball movement, but when fatigue began to set in for the starting
five players the University took control once more. Despite some great ball
movement and passing from the Revolution reserves, they seemed to miss out on
some scoring opportunities and the Uni would keep piling on the points. Taunton
fought back and made a late push in the fourth, but their normal team play and
ball movement was not consistent enough all night to come away with the win. The
final score was 71-94. Although this is the first loss of the season, Coach
Shane Johnston is still confident in the team and the system. Captain Marc
Eggleton stated after the game “These guys are beatable, but we need to focus as
a team and put our best game out on the floor. They have already lost one game
this year, and we will play them two more times. If we can play as a more
cohesive unit on offence and do the simple things right, and ramp up the
intensity on the defensive end I really like our chances” Scorers and stats on
the night were Marc Eggleton 26 (2 blocks), Rich Nelsey 19 (20 reb's, 4
assists), Gabriel Carrillo 7, Ben Thompson 5 (6 reb's), Matt Acott 5 (3 reb's),
Stephen Evans 5, Paul Glaeser 4.

Torbay;
Taunton Revolution Basketball Club continued their Exeter and District Div 1
remaining unbeaten at home against talented opposition Torbay Tigers. Visitors
Torbay who were undefeated this season are always a formidable opponent however
Taunton knew with consistent teamwork and effort they could come away with the
win. From the first quarter, both teams came out focussed. Taunton showed good
patience on the offensive end and great team defence, forcing Torbay to score
only from the outside in the first five minutes. Ben Thompson showed great team
play with three early assists, and Gabriel Carrillo came off the bench chipping
in with 4 points early. Taunton shot the ball well, particularly from inside,
but everything came from their defence giving them a 21-17 lead at the end of
the first quarter. At the start of the second the Revolution lost focus; plagued
by turnovers early, they allowed Torbay to go on a tear – in fact Torbay put
together a 19-2 scoring run in the first 5 minutes giving them a 23-36
advantage. The Revolution answered with a run of their own; in the last 5
minutes of the quarter the home team held Torbay scoreless and orchestrated a
14-0 run of their own, giving them the lead by one point at halftime. The third
period was low scoring for both teams, but Torbay gained a slight advantage
giving them a 3 point lead 51-53 entering the final quarter. In the Fourth it
was all Revolution; it was a close game down the stretch but Taunton again
showed great team play and unforgiving defence at times. Twin towers attack of
Rich Nelsey and John Grounds who had fantastic games, dominated the boards and
helped Taunton to secure a lead of 4 points by the last few minutes of play.
Spurred on by some fantastic supporters on the sideline, Brett Cooper put the
nail in the coffin with a deep 3 pointer late in the game giving the Revolution
a lead of 6. Torbay began to extend their defence late, but Revolution stayed
strong beating the press and making free throws to secure a big win. Holding
Torbay to only 13 points in the last quarter and scoring 22 points of their own,
the final score was 73-67 in favour of the home side. Scoring and stats as
follows; Grounds 19 (15 reb's), Rich Nelsey 15 (17 reb's), Matt Acott 13, Marc
Eggleton 8 (7 reb's, 5 assists), Brett Cooper 9, Gabriel Carrillo 6, Ben
Thompson 3.

DECEMBER 07
Barnstaple;
Taunton Revolution Basketball travelled to Barnstaple on Friday December 7th to
take on the young Bobcats. The game began with both teams trading baskets. The
Revolution defence appeared to be slightly lax in places, and the young Bobcats
were able to make some easy scores. With some good passing the Revolution went
ahead comfortably at the end of the first quarter 27-20. The pattern continued
into the second session, and sparked by Jon Howlett off the bench Taunton
maintained their lead at halftime 53-41. In the third quarter the Revolution
lost their concentration slightly, and although it looked like an easy victory
the Bobcats would not give up; outscoring the Taunton side by 6 in the third
period, Barnstaple carried their momentum into the fourth quarter and briefly
took the lead. However in the last five minutes the Revolution showed their
experience by taking easy options and high percentage plays. Jon Howlett and
John Grounds worked hard inside against smaller defenders and secured the game
at the foul line. Howlett finished the game with 23 points including an amazing
11 of 11 from the free throw line. Grounds finished with 20 points and 14
rebounds. The emphasis was team contributions for the Revolution and at the end
of the game the scoring was well balanced. Ben Thompson was 2 out of 3 from long
range and Marc Eggleton led the team with 10 assists. In the end the Revolution
would take the game 96-87. Scorers and stats for the night were; Howlett 23,
Grounds 20 (14 reb's), Eggleton 14 (10 assists), Acott 12 (5 assists, 5 reb's),
Cooper 10, Glaeser 9 (6 reb's), Thompson 8.

Broadclyst;
The Revolution side travelled down to play Broadclyst for the first time this
season. Both teams are experienced and have a good mixture of young energy and
veteran leadership and this has provided some great match up's in previous
years. The first quarter started slow with the teams sounding each other out.
Offence was hard to come by in places due to the tight defence, and despite
three straight field goals in three consecutive from Taunton Captain Marc
Eggleton, the score stayed close. Brett Cooper would pull up at the three point
line however, at the buzzer of the first quarter, to put Taunton ahead 22-18. In
the second quarter scoring slowed right down, with both teams playing very solid
d and holding each other almost scoreless in the first 4 minutes. Matt Acott
then took control hitting three straight threes to help separate the teams, and
Taunton began to pull away. The third and fourth sessions picked up a little,
helped by some great rebounding from the Revolution's big men Nelsey and
Grounds. Brett Cooper also surprised Broadclyst with some great drives and
finishes around the basket and on the break. Iit would be John Grounds who would
eventually be forced to seal the deal for Taunton at the foul line. Taunton
would finish the low scoring affair with a final score of 56-52. Scoring at
stats for the game as follows; Matt Acott 12 (4 reb's), Brett Cooper 11, Marc
Eggleton 10 (6 assist), John Grounds 10 (6 reb's), Rich Nelsey 9 (11 reb's), Jon
Howlett 2, Gabriel Carrillo 2.

JANUARY 08
Exeter University 1;
Taunton travelled down to the University at Exeter again to play the young
talented student team. With a slow start and Exeter Uni taking the early lead,
Taunton failed once again to get a grasp on the situation. Helped by some calls
best described as questionable, centre John Grounds found himself taking an
early seat with foul trouble. John had provided some scoring opportunities
inside, and without him Taunton were left struggling at times to work their
offence. In the second Taunton picked up a little with some encouraging team
play from the reserves, but again the Revolution bench struggled to keep pace
with the Uni team. At halftime Taunton were down big. In the third quarter,
Taunton narrowed the gap a little, but some lapses in play allowed the Uni to
gain their momentum back. Gabriel Carrillo came off the bench with great energy
and some nice baskets, however Taunton went into the fourth quarter on the wrong
end of 46-73. In the last ten minutes the Revolution shocked Exeter Uni by
putting together a small run - three pointers from Brett Cooper and Paul Glaeser
helped their efforts, as did two straight three's from well beyond the arc for
Captain Marc Eggleton. However, early in the fourth with John Grounds and Marc
fouling out Exeter Uni were able to hold their lead and take control. At the end
of the game Revolution were defeated for the second time this season, and the
score was 75-97. Scoring and stats; Rich Nelsey 16 (15 reb's), Gabriel Carrillo
12, Marc Eggleton 11 (7 assists), John Grounds 11 (6 reb's), Paul Glaeser 8 (5
reb's), Matt Acott 8 (4 reb's, 3 assists), Brett Cooper 7, Ben Thompson 2.

Bridport (Cup First Round);
Taunton played hosts to a young upcoming Bridport team in the first round of the
Exeter & District Cup Competition on Monday 28th January. In the first quarter
Revolution took a few minutes to settle in, getting the ball in to their big man
Rich Nelsey for some close range looks, as well as sharing the ball to the
outside. Although scoring started slow for both teams at the end of the first
quarter Taunton were up 17-11. In the second, the steady pace continued with
many Revolution players contributing from the bench. At the half Revolution
maintained a comfortable lead of 43-26, with Stephen Evans contributing
particularly well in one of his first starts of the year. In the third the
Bridport team played well against some of the Revolution reserves and overall
the scoring was very close. Great performances from Gabriel Carrillo and Stephen
Evans spurred on the team, with some inspiring rebounding and effort from an
injured Ben Thompson off the bench. Taunton would go into the final period up
62-49. In the final ten minutes the main rotation of Marc Eggleton, Brett Cooper
& Rich Nelsey helped to seal the deal for Taunton. Everyone chipped in on
offence, with Graham Brown and Paul Glaeser getting into the act. Scoring 32
points in the fourth the Revolution found a well balanced offence and cruised
down the stretch to win the game 96-67. With 6 Revolution players in double
figure scoring and everyone stepping up in different aspects of the game,
Taunton showed a good team effort which is crucial to their success, all made
possible by an outstanding job by Coach Shane Johnston. Scorers and stats on the
night were; Marc Eggleton 18 (5 assists, 7 reb's), Gabriel Carrillo 14, Brett
Cooper 14, Matt Acott 14 (8 reb's), Rich Nelsey 14 (11 reb's, 1 block), Stephen
Evans 12 (5 reb's), Graham Brown 4 (5 reb's), Paul Glaeser 3 (16 reb's, 2
blocks), Ben Thompson 2 (4 assists, 4 reb's).

FEBRUARY 07
Torbay;
Taunton Revolution hosted Torbay Tigers on the 11th Feb for the second time this
season. Following an intense defensive struggle which Taunton would win earlier
in the season, this game was sure to be close. In the first quarter Torbay came
out shooting well and established an early lead. Taunton found points hard to
come by early and found themselves in a hole down 10-27 at the end of the first
session. In the second period things picked up at both ends of the floor, and
Taunton would have their highest scoring quarter with 26 points while holding
Torbay to 15. In the second half Taunton continued their run, bringing the game
back from 17 points down to come within 4. Torbay would fight back with strong
defence and regain a sizeable lead of 14 points by the beginning of the last
session. Taunton would again try to make a run early in the fourth and again
bring the game within 8, but Torbay would stay strong and hold on to their lead.
As time ran down Taunton would have to start to shoot threes to come back, and
when they weren’t falling Torbay took advantage with some late scoring
opportunities. The game would finish with Torbay winning 82-63. Scorers were -
Rich Nelsey 19 (11 reb's), Marc Eggleton 18 (5 assists), John Grounds 10 (11
reb's), Matt Acott 9 (6 reb's), Gabriel Carrillo 4, Brett Cooper 3, Paul Glaeser
2 (6 reb's).

Broadclyst;
Taunton Revolution played hosts to Broadclyst for the only time this season at
Blackbrook on Mon 25th Feb. Taunton were looking to put their recent loss to
Torbay behind them and get back on track for their Division 1 title run. From
the opening tip the Revolution began strong, using their speed against the
bigger and noticeably slower Broadclyst guys. Everyone chipped in early, with
Rich Nelsey and Paul Glaeser doing a particularly good job inside dominating the
boards. Guards Matt Acott, Marc Eggleton and Brett Cooper were also putting
points on the board. Taunton finished the first quarter up 26-12 and carried
their momentum into the second. Things didn’t improve for the visitors, and
although Taunton’s scoring slowed slightly, by halftime Cooper was leading all
scorers with 13 and Nelsey was a single point short of a double double with 9
points and 10 rebounds. There were also big contributions from Eggleton on 9
points, Acott on 10 points and Ben Thompson with 5 points off the bench. Glaeser
would also be lost for the remainder of the game after a strong start due to a
head injury sustained in a nasty collision in the second period. In the third
quarter Taunton would allow Broadclyst back in the game slightly but at the
start of the fourth the score was 65-40 in favour of the home team. Holding
Broadclyst to only 10 points in the last period, Taunton would continue to
outrun the visitors. With Nelsey still dominating on the boards and Cooper
piling on the points in the end the Revolution were no match. Thompson was
impressive hitting all his field goals on his way to 12 points and Cooper would
top score with 21. Nelsey would finish with an impressive game high 21 rebounds.
Scorers on the night were; Brett Cooper 21 (3 reb’s), Marc Eggleton 15 (6
assists), Rich Nelsey 15 (21 reb’s), Ben Thompson 12 (5 assists), Matt Acott 12
(5 assists), John Grounds 6 (9 reb’s), Gabriel Carrillo 4, Paul Glaeser 0 (6
Reb’s).

MARCH 07
Exeter University 1;
Taunton Revolution continued their quest to the top of Division 1 with their
only home fixture against talented Exeter University. The game was crucial to
Taunton, as already losing to the Uni team twice down in Exeter, a third loss
would make it nearly impossible for them to win the league. From the outset
Taunton came out focussed at both ends of the floor. Scoring inside early and
often, John Grounds had 13 first quarter points and Rich Nelsey dominated the
paint. Grounds would be lost for the rest of the game due to a head injury in
the first quarter, leaving the Revolution without a vital part of the team.
Despite this Taunton maintained a lead at the end of the first session 22-17,
pushing it to 40-26 at half time. Brett Cooper stepped on offence, with the Uni
playing tough defence on previous high scorers against them, Marc Eggleton and
Matt Acott. In the first half Brett was on the receiving end of some great ball
movement and started to heat up from long range hitting three straight. The game
opened up in the third, with tough defence from the Revolution leading to
turnovers and steals for the Uni, which in turn spurred on more shots inside
from Rich. Brett remained red hot from the perimeter and would make a staggering
five more three’s in the third on his way to a game and career high of 28
points. Rich was scoring inside under duress and Taunton made the gap too large
scoring 27 to the Uni’s 19 in the third session. In the fourth the Uni made a
big push and outscored Taunton by 11, but it was too little too late and Taunton
were never in any real danger. Despite the scoring it was a great team effort on
the defensive end which made the difference in the game. Taunton Revolution are
really starting to mesh as a team at this crucial stage in the season. The final
score was 81-70 to the Revolution. Scorers & Stats: Brett Cooper – 29, Rich
Nelsey - 19, John Grounds – 13, Matt Acott – 7, Gabriel Carrillo – 4, Marc
Eggleton -3, Ben Thompson – 2, Paul Glaeser – 2

Exeter Nomads;
Taunton Revolution Basketball continues to hold on to the top spot in Exeter and
District Division 1 with a victory over Exeter Nomads on Sunday 16th March. The
Revolution were without a number of the team due to injury and illness,
particularly key players Matt Acott and John Grounds. Travelling down to Exeter
with only 6 in the line up Taunton expected a good solid game. In the first
quarter they came out hard. Captain Marc Eggleton would take control scoring 9
points in the first 5 minutes of the game. Centre Rich Nelsey would do a solid
job inside and everyone contributed giving Taunton a lead at the end of the
first 23-19. In the second session Taunton extended the lead, Brett Cooper
started to heat up finding himself on the end of some strong passing play. Rich
continued to score inside and grab all the rebounds and despite a late Exeter
push Taunton maintained a lead of 5 at halftime. In the third quarter the lead
extended again, with Brett and Rich continuing the bulk of the scoring. Ben
Thompson chipped in with a quick 5 points and Taunton went into the last session
up by 16. In the fourth quarter Exeter again made a run, which Taunton met with
strong defence and patience. Despite fatigue becoming a factor down the stretch
Taunton stayed strong. Helped by 11 fourth quarter points from Rich on his way
to a game high 27, Taunton would secure the win. In the final minute Marc
Eggleton pulled down his tenth board to round off a strong performance with a
triple double (17 points & 11 assists). The final score was 78-72. Scorers &
stats – Rich Nelsey 28 (17 reb’s, 4 steals), Brett Cooper 25 (3 steals), Marc
Eggleton 17 (11 assists, 10 reb’s, 3 steals), Ben Thompson 6 (6 reb’s, 5
assists), Paul Glaeser 2 (10 reb’s).

Torbay;
The Revolution travelled to Torbay for the only time this season for the last
game against Division One rivals and contenders Torbay Tigers. Once again
Taunton were expecting a dog fight. Both teams were concentrating on defence
early in the game, and the first quarter was fairly low scoring. Rich Nelsey was
working hard inside and chipped in with 7 points, and Brett Cooper also had 5
early however Torbay would edge ahead by two 16-18 at the end of one. In the
second the pattern continued. Captain Marc Eggleton kept Taunton in the running
with 11 points in the quarter including three straight three pointers, but
Torbay would still have the advantage at the half 32-35. In the third period
offence was the aim of the game for Taunton and they did get some more points on
board; Brett Cooper led the charge with three three's for 9 points and five
different Revolution players were involved with the scoring, but at the
defensive end Torbay would manage 25 points. The Revolution found themselves
down 53-60 going into the last session with their season potentially in the
balance. Torbay would come out strong in the first few minutes of the fourth and
go on a 10-0 run leaving Taunton down by a staggering 17 points. Taunton
re-grouped and then would put together a run of their own; helped along by
another 7 in the quarter by Eggleton, Taunton played with real pride to narrow
the lead to 8 points and would hold Torbay to only 6 points in the last 6
minutes of the game. But in the end the Torbay run would prove too much for the
Taunton players, and by the end they had run out of steam. Struggling at the
free throw line to convert Taunton would finish down by 11 points 65-76. Scorers
and stats as follows; Brett Cooper 19 (6 reb's, 3 assists), Marc Eggleton 18 (3
assists), Rich Nelsey 14 (22 reb's), Matt Acott 8 (5 assists), Ben Thompson 4 (5
reb's), Paul Glaeser 2 (6 reb's)

Broadclyst;
Taunton Revolution played at home to Broadclyst on Monday 31st March in their
final game of the regular season. Broadclyst came out strong, and with three
players standing at well over 6’8” tall their size presented Taunton with some
tough defensive match ups. Paul Glaeser started hot scoring the teams first five
points and seven in the first quarter, but even with well balanced scoring
Taunton found them selves down 19-20 after the first period. In the second
quarter Taunton stepped it up a little to take the lead by six approaching half
time. Brett Cooper ran well, finishing out on the break for 10 points however it
was at the defensive end that they struggled conceding a 13 point run from
Broadclyst and 22 points in the quarter. At halftime the score was 37-42. The
Third quarter was the turning point of the game. Taunton again struggled for
points with only 16 in the period. Gabriel Carrillo sparked some offence with
five quick points but it was a familiar story at the other end of the court.
Taunton allowed Broadclyst to dominate at the basket for 27 points which would
give Broadclyst a comfortable 53-69 lead at the start of the final period. It
was all or nothing now for the Revolution. Taunton played with some passion in
the last 10 minutes with their highest scoring quarter. Matt Acott stepped up
hitting three 3 pointers for 9 points, and guards Brett Cooper and Marc Eggleton
chipped in with one each to help Taunton pull the score within 7 points with a
little over a minute to go. Taunton then failed to get any closer having to foul
to stop the clock, and with Broadclyst making crucial baskets the Revolution
would finally lose the game 77-88. It was a fairly disappointing loss as the
last regular season game of the season, but with the league title out of reach
Taunton need to re-group for the Cup Semi Final game against Torbay on 20th
April. Scorers on the night as follows; Brett Cooper 21, Marc Eggleton 19 (7
assists, 5 reb's), Matt Acott 15 (4 assists, 5 reb's), Rich Nelsey 9 (5 steals,
16 reb's), Paul Glaeser 7 (4 reb's), Gabriel Carrillo 5.

Torbay (Semi Final);
Taunton Revolution travelled down to Exeter for the Semi Finals of the Men’s Cup
Competition to face Division One rivals Torbay Tigers. Taunton had beaten Torbay
once during the season but fallen to them on two occasions so they knew it would
be tough. In the first quarter Torbay were in control taking an early lead.
Taunton managed to stay within reach until some hot shooting at the end of the
quarter gave Torbay a 16-12 lead. In the second Torbay continued to outwork the
Revolution defence, hitting early and often giving themselves a lead of 12. The
Revolution guys then made a huge run of their own, helped with some hot shooting
from guards Marc Eggleton and Matt Acott and the inside rebounding of Rich
Nelsey and Paul Glaeser. Taunton rallied back to take the lead just before
halftime, which spurred Torbay to step up and take the lead again. At the half
the Revolution were down 35-31. In the second half Torbay came out aggressive
looking to put the game away. The Revolution struggled on offence and although
they moved the ball well at times the tough inside presence of Torbay made
scoring difficult and forced Taunton into a spate of turnovers. Despite some
great efforts Taunton would find themselves down 55-41 at the start of the final
session. With their cup hopes hanging in the balance, the Revolution gave one
final push in the fourth quarter, bringing the game close at times. But the
composure and control of Torbay down the stretch would force Taunton into quick
shots in an attempt to get back in the game. Ben Thompson, Marc Eggleton and
Matt Acott would contribute from the three point line but in the end it was too
little too late. At the end of the game Taunton would fall 78-59 giving Torbay
the victory. It was disappointing for the Revolution, and Capt. Marc Eggleton
felt they had let themselves down at times. “Torbay were the better team on the
day, no doubt. But what is frustrating is that we can beat them, we know their
game and how to stop them. For whatever reason we were just not there mentally.
We focused at times but we were not consistent, and a quality team like Torbay
will make you pay for your mistakes”. Scorers and Stats – Marc Eggleton 22 (3
assists, 5 reb’s), Rich Nelsey 15 (19 reb’s), Matt Acott 14 (7 reb’s). Ben
Thompson 6, Brett Cooper 2 (5 assists).
