Current Player Profiles

Below you will see a list of the players registered with the team for the current season in Exeter and District Division One. The starting five may vary from time to time, and the club has a great mix of players; a skilled core of individuals and a great back up and supporting cast. In 2010 the team is looking forward to having great depth on the roster, with the more experienced players sharing their knowledge with some of the newer players.

The team is very versatile and although there are undoubtedly very skilled individuals the focus is on teamwork. This means any of the players can step in, play their role and contribute to the teams' success. Due to the extra addition of players into the rotation, there has been an adjustment from a lot of team members this year with maybe less minutes or fewer scoring opportunities. It can be tough but it's what good teamwork is all about, it's not about 'me', it's about 'we'.

The supporting cast continue to work in training to ensure they are ready to play when they get on the court, and the club has a group of players who are not concerned about individual scoring or glory - the aim is to win. Period.

You will also see below the "aka" for this season. This is partly for fun and partly because with more players on the team there are some people with the same name - so the Players know who the Coaches are shouting at!!

Here are the players in no particular order. . . . . .

(Up to date pictures are to follow)

Marc Eggleton - aka "Silky"

Marc is the teams Point Guard; he runs the offence and controls the team. A constant 3 point threat and a good all round player on both ends of the floor, passing and shooting are his main attributes. Career highs include 10 three’s in a game & 37 points in the 2006/7 season. Marc was voted the 2004/5, 2005/6 and the 2006/7 Most Valuable Player by the coach and his team mates. Marc has been the team captain for as long as the club has been running. He still leads by example and wants to get the team running at every opportunity. aka relates to an old college nickname given to him by a college team mate.

Ben Thompson - aka "Killjoy"

Ben is a great team and individual defender, and is strong on the boards for his size; he is always hustling. A scoring threat who runs the floor well and can hit an open jumper. Always at the top of the stats in steals, a great team player on offence and defence. Ben won the teams Players’ Player trophy in 2005/6 Season and has been the BCA Bombers Most Valuable Player in a previous season. He was also voted the teams Players' Player at the close of the '06/07 Season. Ben can start or provide valuable rebounding and hustle from the bench, but always plays the game with the same intensity and 'team first' attitude. aka relates to a long standing alias which was given to signify Ben's attitude to shutting down the opposition on offence.

John Lockyer - aka "Vintage"

John is another one of the teams’ experienced players. He uses an array of low post moves to get his shot off. He is a consistent and able scorer, but always puts the team success ahead of his own stats and is usually happy to be a role player and support his team mates. The team rely on Johns experience and savvy for stability off the bench and leadership. He will do his damage though if overlooked by the opposition and plays the game very calm and deliberately - always thinking and under control. aka relates to 'throwback' style of play, and team mates chanting 'Vintage' at the turn around, fade away jump shot.

Matt Acott - aka "Mattmatics"

Matt has improved through the ranks of back up guard to become one of the teams best players and perhaps the teams most true point guard. An excellent passer, Matt has worked hard to gain a starting spot for the Revolution and is on track to be one of the most improved players in the last 2-3 seasons. Matt is a great team player; he is also a great shooter at 3 point range and will make the opposition pay for leaving him open. He is also a tough defender. Matt is a great example to the club, working into the starting five by noticeably working on his game and his fitness. He was MVP in 2008 and is on par for another excellent year. aka relates to Matt's calculated passing ability, executed with apparently mathematical precision.

Brett Cooper - aka "      "

Brett has become a great scorer and has improved steadily since joining the team. A good 3 point shooter and passer, o steady defender and passionate player, he has worked into the starting 5 by proving himself time and time again. He has become the teams top scorer in 2009 / 10 and his aggressive drives to the basket and finishing ability continue to impress. Brett is consistent and full of energy and enthusiasm. He can run the floor and finish as well as anyone at our level. He was been voted the teams Most Improved Player in 2004/5 & and co-MIP in 2005/6. aka relates to . . . . . . . .

Paul Crawford - aka "Pigsy"

Paul joined the team in 2008 after playing recreational basketball for just a few months. Paul is around 6' 7" and his instincts for team sports is second to none. Still learning the game, he has steadily improved both his offence and defence and has become more of a scoring threat. He runs extremely well for someone his size, and has the potential to dominate smaller opponents. Most Improved Player at the end of the 2008 / 09 season, the team looks forward to his game continuing to excel. Career highs of 15 points and 22 rebounds so far are a great place to start!! aka relates to name earned at college for eating a whole packet of chocolate digestives in one sitting.

Justin Burke - aka "           "

Justin joined the Revolution team in 2009, just as the season was starting. He is a great inside player, and despite many years away from the game his terrific enthusiasm for the game and positive energy have made a difference to the team in a very short time. He is improving rapidly, and although small for the inside positions he is sometimes asked to play his hard work and team attitude allows him to contribute in many ways. Revolution are looking forward to Justin building on this platform and continuing to contribute. aka is for . . . . . . .

Stephen Evans - aka "Pyro"

Stephen joined the team at the end of the 2006/2007 season, and only managed to play in a few matches. Stephen has displayed some of his skills from earlier years of playing at a decent level, and now he has returned to the game the Revolution are looking forward to him passing on his experience to some of the younger players. He works hard in training, and continues to impress his team mates, and has become a valuable contributor. As required, Stephen can also step into a starting spot providing great rebounding and strength at the defensive end, and consistent shooting on offence. aka relates to . . . . . . . .

Adrian Briggs - aka "       "

Adrian has played for the club previously, and has returned this season bring his unique blend of speed and skills back to the team. He is probably one of the quickest guys in the league on the fast break, and although he has lost some offensive skills during his time out, he can still outrun opponents up and down the court and do his damage finishing on the break. Adrian is currently coming off the bench to help at the guard spot, and improves week after week He is looking forward to making a strong contribution for the squad. aka relates to . . . . . . . . . .

Alastair Hinchliffe - aka "       "

Alastair is the silent assassin of the team. He is a little younger than the rest of the team, and he's a man of few words on the court - and prefers to let his game do the talking. The beneficiary of some great training programmes with other teams, he has excellent fundamentals and team spirit. He's a good rebounder, quick defender, consistent shooter and great at moving the ball to an open team mate. Revolution are hoping he will help boost a younger membership into the team and stick around for years to come. aka is about . . . . . . . . .

Marcin Gladys - aka "Longer"

Marcin is in his first season with the Revolution, and started training with the team at the end of the 2008 / 2009 season. Marcin is from Poland and brings some great skills and strength on the boards to the team. He has great jumping ability and despite being undersized pulls down his share of the boards and gets great position. He is also quick enough to run the floor and shoots a decent percentage, so he's a handful on D as well. aka is a nickname from friends back home in Poland, as he is a little taller than most of them!

Robe Rowe

Rob is another guy who has a long history with the team and has returned this year after a period away from the game. Rob has given some great support at the guard spot, and comes into the game using his skills to his advantage. He is a great ball distributor, runs the floor well and plays solid at both ends of the court. Rob doesn't always look for his own scoring opportunities, but prefers to move the ball to his team mates - a very overlooked and underrated skill these days. He provides consistency and great leadership from the bench. aka is about . . . . . . . . .

Gari Le Piquet

Gari as another one of the new players, joining part way through the 2009 / 2010 season. Gari is lean, enthusiastic and works his tail off around the basket. He is constantly working on the offensive glass to get his team extra scoring opportunities, and plays excellent defence, also working for the defensive boards. He has great jumping ability and long arms, and great timing. Gari is a good team player and wants to leave the game knowing he made a difference and worked hard while he was in there. the aka is  . . . . . .

And finally . . . . .

Brian Wooley - Head coach

The person on the sidelines trying to keep things as organised as possible is Brian Wooley. Brian has been working with the team since about December 2009, and has brought some great experience in coaching at many levels across the UK. His input allows everyone to play into a different system trying to get the best out of the players, and also allows player / coaches Matt and Marc to concentrate on their playing! Taunton Revolution welcomes Brian with open arms.

James Mudge - aka Director

James is the cameraman for the team and has been for many years - without James the highlight DVDs and game footage / stats would not be possible. In addition, he is one of our best supporters and is always on hand helping out at fundraising events, open days or in the store, and everyone appreciates what an asset he is to the team. A close personal friend of Marc's and many other players on the team, he has been welcomed into the fold and we hope he sticks around for many years to come. Thanks James!! aka earned because of unrivalled camera skills!!
